Adult Immunization Program
It is a requirement by law that New York State insurance plans cover recommended vaccines for children. There is no law requiring coverage for adults, making it difficult for many adults to obtain the vaccines that are recommended for them. [ Adult Vaccine Schedule ]
We currently have a limited amount of vaccine to administer to adult residents of Broome County. The vaccine was purchased by the New York State Department of Health with funds from the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). There is no charge for the vaccines, but a sliding scale fee for the administration of the vaccines may apply. The available vaccines include:
Vaccine Information Statements (VISs)
Vaccine Information Statements (vis) are information sheets produced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention www.cdc.gov/vaccines/ (CDC) that explain both the benefits and risks of a vaccine to vaccine recipients, their parents, or their legal representatives. Federal law requires that VIS be handed out whenever certain vaccinations are given.

Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS)
VAERS is a safety surveillance program that collects information about adverse events (possible side effects) that occur after the administration of U.S. licensed vaccines. It is a program of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
For more information and directions to complete a VAERS form, you may go to www.vaers.hhs.gov.
National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP)
The VICP is a program designed to encourage childhood vaccination by providing a streamlined system for compensation in rare instances where an injury results from vaccination.
